Jennie is a musician from Hilo, Hawaii with a very eclectic range of musical styles. A typical gig will include Hawaiian, R&B, jazz, pop, country, local island music and more from the 1920’s through today. Each performance is geared towards an ever changing audience.
Jennie grew up singing and performing in musical theater and other community events before attending the University of Iowa and Colorado State University for a degree in music therapy with a performance emphasis. Her classical voice training in combination with show choir, musicals and a reggae/luau band were great training for the musician she is today.
After taking time off to raise her two young children, Jennie was called back to music when she joined a hula halau in San Francisco, Halau ‘o Keikiali’i, under the direction of Kumu Kawika Alfiche. She soon joined the halau band and had the opportunity to perform around the country as well as in Japan. She was also a contributor to Kumu Kawika’s latest cd.
Jennie and her family moved back to Hilo in 2013 and with their support, she was able to continue making music. She now plays regularly at local venues and private events around the state.
